A health and fitness podcast that doesn't take itself too seriously, but also shine's a light on the mind side of the "body and mind" ethos that we’re about here at Higher Training. You'll be sure to make some serious brain gains but that will only be a small part of it. No topic is safe from being talked about whether it be mental health, music, sport or whatever decides to poke its wee head up in conversation. I'll be bringing in people from all walks of life to talk about their story, have a laugh and to learn some lesson's along the way. I hope you all enjoy the journey!

Back once again lads and ladies!
Have you ever had a niggle or slight injury that wasn't enough to warrant a trip to the physio or doctor, but stopped you from training and caused you serious hassle?
This episode is for you!
Andy (@adroitfit on IG) and I delve into training around injuries and using your training as a way to solve those small issues.
We get into his experience coaching @alexisrufus at the Crossfit Games last year and how he chose to represent Rick & Morty at it rather than market his own brand.
If only more people were like Andy...
The above is only the tip of the iceberg, so get stuck into the podcast to hear more from myself and the fitness mechanic himself.
Check out the usual streaming sights to listen and make sure to leave a rating and review if you appreciate what we do with the podcast, that's how I know I'm doing a half decent job at it!

Ep 16 - Getting your back cracked isn't the answer - Jade Louise PT
Monday Oct 05, 2020
Monday Oct 05, 2020
And we're LIVE!
In this episode I speak to Jade who is a Physiotherapist based in London, who is not afraid to speak her mind on all topics around health.
Should our healthcare systems (in particular with musculoskeletal injuries) push a preventative approach? Or should we continue spending untold millions through reacting to well established and known health issues?
This alongside lower back pain, stress management and why being open minded is necessary for growth make up a big bulk of conversation.
Thank you to all the listeners, all the feedback is really appreciated and I hope you keep enjoying these conversations.

Sink or swim boiii?
Being forced into uncomfortable situations may be shit sometimes, but they help you grow.
Welcome to episode 15 of the Higher Training Podcast where we talk a whole load about uncomfortable situations and "sink or swim" moments.
Old school GAA training methods still being used nowadays to find "the tough ones" peaks it's head up.
Pre-warning, Cian fucking hates the legs being ran off him at football training so prepare for a top quality (in entertainment and validity) rant!!
His journey from Carlow to DCU (where we were classmates) to Thailand and back again provide a great framework for lessons and entertainment in equal measure.
Expect mentions of Crossfit, Paleo, fitness buzz words and doping in sport.
Make sure to give @cianobrien and @kfshealth a follow!
If you're a fan of the podcast then whack a picture of it up on your social media while you're listening to let your mates know about it,
And if you're really sound, give us a rating and review on Apple podcast ;)
You's are a sound bunch of hooligans, thanks for listening this past few months I really appreciate it!

Ep. 14 - FREEEDOM!! - Sky Elizabeth (Coach, Nutritionist, PT Mentor)
Monday Aug 24, 2020
Monday Aug 24, 2020
You can guess what Sky's favourite movie choice is from the title can't you?
Grimsby's favourite coach/nutritionist joined me for a very entertaining and insightful episode of the Higher Training Podcast.
Having competed in bodybuilding she has a unique perspective on "dieting" and it's toll on the body and mind.
We briefly discuss training during the menstrual cycle (that goes from 29-38 mins if it's not your jam) and how to approach it as a coach and as a women who trains.
Expect innuendos a-plenty, mucho brain gains and a whole bunch of laughs in this one!!
Make sure to sort your pal Pig out by giving us a 5 star rating on Apple podcasts and leave a review. It puts an even bigger cheesy grin on my face to see that so many people have found it to be beneficial and enjoyable.
Keep smiling, keep shining...

Back once again for the renegade master!
We are back for the 2nd half of this brilliant conversation with my man Paris (Wales 4th sexiest man 2013, in case you didn't know...).
We continue on right where we left off on the last episode so make sure to head on back and listen to that if you happened to miss it last week.
If you've been listening to the podcast for a while, show your appreciation by leaving us a rating and review on apple podcasts. It only takes 1 minute but it really means a lot to me and the team!
Keep enjoying the journey folks.

"They know it's still going on, but they wanna switch the telly off"
This is a massive one!!
I'm joined by good pal and former Soho Gym colleague @parisetoriafitness
We talked Boxing, being a glorified cleaner AKA a "gym instructor" and we speak about our experiences at the recent Black Lives Matter protests in London.
I purposefully kept this podcast for when people stopped sharing and talking about the topic because this issue and this topic of conversation is not going away until shit changes!!
These conversations need to be had by all who care about making this world a better place.
I really appreciate Paris for taking the time to chat with me on what is Part 1 of 2 very fucking DEEP podcasts!!
Share with your mates, rate it on Apple podcasts and give it a review to let me know if you enjoy these podcasts and find them valuable!!

If your childhood was filled with people saying, "D Von, get the tables".
People getting thrown off a 20 ft steel cage through an announcers table,
Or if you regularly saw massive grown men wear minuscule tights, it may have been a very weird childhood, or you were a big Wrestling fan back in the day!!
Plenty of nostalgia in this one as we discuss what it's like to be a wrestler, the training that goes into it and the stigma that's attached to liking Wrestling as you get older.
Being a wrestler was something I definitely wanted to do when I was a young fla so this one is especially enjoyable for me!
If you enjoyed this podcast please share it with your friends, tag me in it, and rate it on Apple podcasts.

Higher Training Podcast Episode 11 - Ciaran Casey Byrne
Tuesday Jul 07, 2020
Tuesday Jul 07, 2020
It's great to get chatting to someone you haven't seen in years isn't it?
On this episode, I got to chat with someone who was an integral part of my 2nd year Health & Fitness project (I taught him how to bench press, very badly).
The same person also moved all the way to Australia to be a professional athlete in the AFL with the @CarltonBlues.
Gaelic Football (and Hurling) is such an integral part of smaller communities in Ireland so for anyone who isn't Irish, this is a great look into what the national sports are all about.

Episode 10 - Mikey Drennan
On this episode, I'm joined by Mikey Drennan. Mikey is a former Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Shamrock Rovers footballer and he came on today to talk a little bit about his journey in football and his journey with depression.
We chat about what it was like as a young fella heading over to England on his lonesome, what the future may hold for the league of Ireland and we also discuss mental health and gambling.
Episode number 10 already, and another great one for you folks to enjoy!!
Make sure to spread the word by sharing it to your story, reviewing on apple podcast and giving some feedback :)

Episode 9 - Denise Goff
This episode I'm joined by my former Soho Gym colleague Denise. Denise is a professional dancer and barre instructor based in London. Having moved over to London at 18 she's performed in a wide array of shows and has been honing her craft as a Barre instructor since 2018.
We discuss our time working at Soho Gym in Covent Garden, what Barre is all about and we delve into how much work it actually takes to become a dancer.
Plenty of entertaining and informative tangents in this one as we take a little journey into the life of a professional dancer.
Make sure to give @deni_goff a follow for more dancing and Barre related content!
